Travel Guidelines

Washington National Airport (Ronald Reagan, DCA)

Washington National is the airport closest to the conference hotel in Arlington. The airport is located on the Potomac River in Virginia, just south of downtown Washington. It is served by the Blue and Yellow Metro lines. Depending on your destination, the Metro fare will typically be on the order of $2 or $3. Taxi fare into downtown Washington or Arlington will be about $10.

Baltimore-Washington International Airport (Thurgood Marshall, BWI)

BWI Airport is located south of Baltimore, just east of I-95; it is approximately 35 miles from downtown Washington. Taxis to Arlington and/or downtown Washington will cost on the order of $60.
There is a rail station at the airport (serviced by shuttle buses departing from the lower level of the terminal, outside the baggage claim). Both Amtrak (Northeast Regional and Acela Lines) and MARC (Penn Line) stop at the BWI rail station, and travel on to Union Station in downtown Washington. The MARC trains are significantly cheaper (ca. $6) than Amtrak (ca. $20-$40) for a one-way ticket to Union Station. From Union Station, Metro can bring you to various parts of the metropolitan area, including Arlington.
WMATA also operates the B30 bus route connecting BWI to the Greenbelt stop on the Green Line of the Washington Metro subway system. Buses depart every 30 minutes from bus stops at either end of the terminal outside the baggage claim. A one-way trip costs $3.20 (bring exact fare, no change is available on the bus). The trip to Greenbelt takes about 30 minutes; from there, Metro can bring you to College Park or other parts of the metropolitan area.

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)

Dulles Airport is located in Virginia, approximately 30 miles from downtown Washington. Taxis to downtown Washington will cost on the order of $60; taxis to Arlington will be approximately $50.
Unfortunately the Metro line has not yet been extended to Dulles, but Washington Flyer operates a shuttle bus connecting the Dulles terminal to the West Falls Church stop on the Orange Line of the Washington Metro subway system. Buses depart every 30 minutes from Door 4 on the arrivals level of the main terminal building. A one-way trip costs $10 ($18 round-trip), with tickets available at the ticket podium inside Door 4. The trip to West Falls Church takes about 25 minutes; from there, Metro can bring you to downtown Washington or other parts of the metropolitan area, including Arlington.
WMATA also operates the 5A bus route connecting Dulles to the Rosslyn Rosslyn Station Bus Bay (at the Rosslyn stop on the Blue/Orange Line of the Washington Metro subway system). Rosslyn Station is a couple of blocks from the Hotel Palomar. The bus departs Dulles approximately every 30min. (depending on time of day) from the Taxi Level; a one-way trip costs trip costs $3.20 (bring exact fare, no change is available on the bus). The trip to Rosslyn takes about 35 minutes, with several stops along the way.

Directions to the Conference Venue

The workshop will take place at the Waterview Conference Center in Arlington, VA.
The Hotel Palomar is a couple of blocks from the Rosslyn Station Bus Bay (served by the 38B line, and the 5A line, among others) and the Rosslyn Metro stop (served by the Blue and Orange lines). For further details, please check the WMATA Trip Planner.
