Overview
ENEE 757 provides an introduction to the principles of building secure distributed systems. The course will cover both attacks and defenses, with a focus on the role of data analytics and experimentation in security. Topics include operating system (OS) security, secure network communications, distributed infrastructures suporting cybercrime and detection of sophisticated cyber attacks.
Who should take ENEE 757?
The goal of this course is to give you a thorough grounding in computer security. You will learn about the current research issues in this area, and the fundamental security principles; this will prepare you to collaborate with security researchers, to tackle security problems that appear in your own work, or to conduct research in security. You will also gain hands-on experience with implementing security techniques. ENEE 757 is a systems-oriented course with a substantial programming component; this is not a course in cryptography or theoretical security.
Logistics
- Complete your homeworks and paper critiques entirely on your own. After you hand in your critiques, you are welcome (and encouraged) to discuss them with others.
- Discuss the problems and concepts involved in the project, but produce your own project implementation, report and presentation. Group projects are the result of team work, so collaboration among team members is strongly encouraged (and required for a good end result).
