Vietnam (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sapa, Bac Ha)

The pictures were taken during a two-week trip to Vietnam Dec 2008 and Jan 2009. Canon 5D, Canon G9 cameras with lenses 28-70L2.8 was used.

The pictures are reduced in resolution to make downloading tolerable, originals are 10-13MPixels.

Vietnam is a wonderful destination that combines natural beauty with diverse cultures. The food is wonderful. The traffic is chaotic in Hanoi and at times it is tiring due to noise pollution, but all in all worth the exploration.

We spent 3 days in Halong Bay on a cruise, the area is very scenic with very good seafood. Better luck with weather and better organized cruising itineraries would certainly have helped us. Next time we will do better, for sure.

The Northwest areas of Sapa and Bac Ha were wonderful due to the ethnic groups that live there (most prominently are the Flower H'mong). The beauty, color and lifestyle of these groups are admirable and we hope they will survive the influx of tourists (such as us) as well as modernity. We visited three important markets, Can cau, Bac Ha and Coc Ly. While each is unique, the Bac Ha market is the best.
