Disclaimer: Overall, I have been quite pleased with the very positive response
to the press release. However, several misquotes, that have not been corrected
even after my explicit requests, are still out there.
1. One specific misquote is
that I called the industry "clueless". What I have said is: (a) the
industry announced that transition from serial to parallel programming is
imminent and parallel programming will be critical for getting the best
performance out of future processors; (b) as a result, software vendors are now
effectively incapacitated: it does not make sense for them to invest in developing
new major software, since while they know that change in programming languages
is soon to happen, the industry is not telling them how exactly the new programming
language(s) will look. I was only quoting some anonymous colleagues who pointed
out to me that this appearance of cluelessness by the industry puts software
developers at an impasse; the main point I made was rather constructive: this
appearance of cluelessness got to be address immediately, since unless it is
resolved soon, this impasse can be quite harmful to the information technology
sector of the economy.
2. In another case, rather balanced statements I have made were taken
to an extreme. My specific requests to quote me accurately were
ignored.
