This module focused on images, and in particular on photographs and video. The module is designed to be completed in 17 hours over 14 days. As with every module, you must complete all componentents of this module by midnight on the evening of the indicated end date for the module.

Module Checklist

The recommended order for completing the activities in this module is:
  1. View the introductory video for this module.
  2. Make progress on your project! This is a two-week module, the first week of which includes the Thanksgiving break. Only 5 hours of work is expected from you in that first partial week, all of which should be allocated to your project.
  3. Read chapter 3 of Rueger's book. Section 3.7 contains only exercises, which you can skip.
  4. View the first reading commentary video.
  5. Read chapter 3 of Snoek and Worring's book.
  6. View the second reading commentary video.
  7. Read the Over et al. overview paper on TRECVid.
  8. View the third reading commentary video.
  9. Check ELMS to see if you have an additional reading summary assigned to you this week. If so, complete that summary by midnight Thursday December 4 and submit it using ELMS.
  10. View the Image Retrieval lecture video.
  11. View the Video Retrieval lecture video.
  12. View the Multimedia Retrieval lecture video.
  13. On Friday December 5 (or later), read and comment on the additional reading summaries that were prepared by your classmates this week.
  14. Read Project Assignment P13.
  15. Watch the exercise explanation video for Project Assignment P13.
  16. Complete Project Assignment P13 and submit your results using ELMS.
  17. If you want to hear some of the topics in this module presented differently, consider viewing parts of the optional supplementary videos.

This week we have three reading assignments.

Summaries of Additional Readings

Additional readings are assigned to five students. All students should read the five summaries once they are posted to ELMS, and all students other than those who wrote a summary this week should make a comment on the discussion board about at least one of the summaries (or about someone else's comment on one of them).

Project Assignment P13

Finally, complete Project Assignment P13. Like all assignments that you are asked to turn in, this is due at midnight on the last day of the module.
