LBSC 690 Midterm Exams

Prior midterm exams naturally covered the material that had been taught by that point in the semester. The sequencing is different each semester (so different things might have been covered before the midterm in an earlier semester), as is some of the content (so good answers a few years ago may no longer be good answers!). But these will certainly give you an idea of the style of questions that you can expect and the overall scope of the exam, and some of the questions are very relevant to what we are doing today.

LBSC 690 Final Exams

As with the midterms, what is here should be enough to give you an idea what a 690 final exam looks like, though, and some of the questions are still relevant to what we are teaching today.

An early version of what eventually became the final exam for the Spring 97 semester. The actual version of the exam that was given is no longer available, and no answers are available online.
Fall 96 Final Exam
The actual final exam that was given in Fall 96. The original included a newspaper advertisment for a computer system that has been approximated in this version. Answers are available.

Exams From Other Faculty

Many people have taught LBSC 690 over the years, and those faculty members have used a wide range of styles. Most recent offerings come from one of two "branches" of the LBSC 690 family tree, the "Networks" branch (which is what Jimmy Lin, Jordan Boyd-Graber, and I teach) and the "HCI" branch (which is what Allison Druin and Jen Golbeck teach). When looking at exams from other faculty, it can be useful to first sort out what branch the instructor taught from because the exams could have quite different coverage and style across the two branches. The fundamental content is the same, however, so looking at exams from other branches can also be useful. Here are a few exams from other faculty in the "networks" branch.

LBSC 708U Exams

LBSC 708U was a half-semester course that was offered in place of LBSC 690 for a couple of years. There was no midterm in LBSC 708U, just quizes and a final. I never taught LBSC 708U, so these exams are from other faculty members. No answers are available online.
