Multiresolution models can provide representations of a geometric shape at different degrees of accuracy and complexity, based on user requirements. They have an impact in many applications, which require the manipulation of complex three-dimensional objects. In this chapter, we present a survey of existing multiresolution techniques. A comprehensive framework for multiresolution modeling is introduced, and existing models are presented, interpreted and compared by referring to such framework.
